The Network 20/20 Annual Lecture on Iran-Western Relations

Reset: Iran, Turkey, and America’s Future

Stephen Kinzer briefed Network 20/20 members on why strategic partnerships with Turkey and Iran, both increasingly important regional players, are necessary for bringing stability and democracy to the Middle East. His in-depth research gives insight on America’s past blunders in the region, and why the United States must reshape its relations with its traditional allies, Saudi Arabia and Israel. As Kinzer argues in Reset, Turkey and Iran both have longstanding democratic legacies, and the United States must not exclude them in its plan for Mideast peace.

Author of seven books, Stephen Kinzer has served as Foreign Correspondent for the New York Times and covered more than 50 countries on five continents. He currently teaches journalism and international relations at Boston University and contributes articles to the New York Review of Books, The Daily Beast, and The Guardian. Columbia University awarded Kinzer the Maria Moors Cabot prize in 1988 for his outstanding coverage of Latin America.
