Director of Overseas Partnership Programs for the Center for News Literacy at Stony Brook University
Richard Hornik is the director of Overseas Partnership Programs for the Center for News Literacy at Stony Brook University, where he also lectures on journalism.A journalist with over 30 years of global experience, he is also an editorial consultant who specializes in business and economics. He has designed and implemented editorial reorganization plans at Reuters and the Harvard Business Review. He was, HBR’s interim editor in 2011 and is now a contributing editor there.In 2001, Mr. Hornik retired from his position as executive editor of AsiaWeek. He was deputy chief of correspondents and news service director of Time in New York between 1994-97 and served as Time’s bureau chief in Warsaw (1981-83), Boston (1983-84), Beijing (1985-87) and Hong Kong (1991-93), and as national economics correspondent in Washington, D.C. (1987-90) and Europe business editor (1998-2000).
Mr. Hornik co-authored Massacre in Beijing: China’s Struggle for Democracy (Warner Books, 1989), with Donald Morrison, and has written for Foreign Affairs, Fortune, Smithsonian, New York Times and Wall St. Journal. He has an M.A. in Russian studies from George Washington University and a B.A. in political science from Brown University.
